gemstones. Brazil's
economy was the world's eighth largest and THE LARGEST in Latin
America, making up one-third of the region's economy. The
mineral based industries produced $50.5 billion or 8.5% of GDP
in 2000 and production has increased every year thereafter.
Brazil's mining industry has attracted investor interest because
of the country's diversified mineral endowment, the Government's
macroeconomic policies, and a skilled labor force. Major
international mining, petroleum and steel companies have staked
notable interest and investments in the iron ore, steel, coal,
gold, bauxite and diamond mining industries. |
